About a year ago I was outside taking a break. Just leaning against a wall, getting some fresh air. In the near distance, I see a guy that kind of looks like Mel Gibson walking toward me, but I didnt stare, I looked the other way. When he got nearer, it turns out it WAS Mel Gibson. I again looked away since its not so unusual to have famous people walking around. Suddenly he stopped right in front of me, so I looked at him. He looked at me. There was that awkward moment of us just looking at each other. Did he expect me to talk to him? Was I supposed to? Several moments later, I finally asked, What? You know, in that NY bothered kind of tone. He asked, Is there a coffee shop around here? I said, Yeah, across the street, around the corner. Again, he just stood there staring at me. I stared back at him. You know, like cats do until one backs down? He finally backed down (I wasnt going to. Its the New Yorker in me, I suppose) and crossed the street. As he did, I wondered what happened to that guy? He used to be charming and kind of cool, and I probably would have had a conversation with him. I still think hes talented, but now he just seems tired and a bit strange. Hope you find peace, Mr. Gibson.
