About an hour ago, we had our very first Sheltering In Place drill! We had a staff meeting last night and we reviewed our procedures and talked about what to tell the children this morning. When we have Fire Drills, we practice getting out of our building in case there is ever a fire inside. But we also need to practice for emergencies that could happen outside--like bad weather situations where we would need to stay inside to keep safe. Our classrooms all have windows and some even have doors, so it is safer to be within our interior walls--the hallway! The children were very responsive to our announcement and quickly and quietly moved to their designated space in the hallway. They waited patiently while we counted numbers and briefly discussed the spacing, which seemed to be just fine! The teachers did a fantastic job preparing the children--everything went smoother than expected! I am really proud of the children and our team of teachers!
