About our asylum seekers . Ive been fortunate to have worked with Iraqis on a farm . They were the most polite , efficient , generous & fun bunch of people Ive ever worked with . They were also very well educated - Doctors, Agronomists, a Dentist ( not recognised here) Assets to any society . During breaks they would dance & sing & laugh ; they brought delicacies for all to share; and most were waiting for their families to arrive on the boats . This was 2001-2002 . One man lost his mother , wife & all his children in a sinking off Christmas Island . He tried to hang himself but their close community saved him in time . If only Australians all, could know the value & values of the asylum seekers , there would be no issue . They would blend gratefully into our ways. , contributing as much as possible & enriching our lives & society until such time as they could return home - leaving us the poorer when they left.
