About twenty two + years ago, I gained a son. Today, is his birthday and he is thirty-seven. Thats right, he was fourteen, turning fifteen when I married his Mom. He did not know what to think of me and he pretty much kept his distance. I guess he was a little uncomfortable in sharing his mom with me. He had not had good experiences getting close because when he tried to get close, they always left. He had different interests than me and he did his thing and I did mine. I supported him and attended his activities just the same. I was a committed parent for him as I was for my own natural children. I tried many times to get him involved in fixing things so he would know how to do things, but he refused. Then after he was grown, he started asking me to help him. He sometimes would call and ask how to do things. I sometimes give step by step instructions over the phone. He now has two sons of his own and without a doubt, he and his wife have taught the boys that I am their Pa Pa. We have been a long way to get to this point but today, and for quite some time now, we are family. It was not long ago, I was standing nearby and he told someone that I was his dad. He didnt say the S word in front of Dad, just Dad. I dont mind telling anyone how proud I am of the man and person he has become. Happy Birthday son
