Absolutely loving Dredd (2012) a reboot of a dark tech graphic novel (I think) previously attended to in the mid-Nineties with Stallone film Judge Dredd (1994). Last years update has an entirely different storyline (from the earlier movie darlings) featuring Alex Garlands script (he the novelist of The Beach and Tesseract) that has got to be the best written action script with fully realized characters Ive seen in a few years. Karl Urban of the Bourne series and LOTR and Star Trek replaces Sylvester Stallone as the future urban combat/police extra-judicial (by contemporary standards) SWAT typed cop hero. Lena Headey of Game of Thrones is frightening and cool and action as the villain running a city tower in Mega-City-One, the landscape of the flick. Ultra-Violence is standard in Hollywood action movies but it is so controversial in this violent crime shooter-stricken era (I just call it domestic terrorism these days) but we all know we roll with that stuff when were watching a movie. Anyway, Dredd is a really good future police movie with a brilliant script (Robocop is coming back soon as well!)
