Abuse should NEVER be considered acceptable, that parts common sense, helping ourselves to understand that and break cycles is challenging but not impossible. Helping OTHERS to break the cycle, however, is a hell of a lot harder. Dysfunctional parents need mentors, role models, self esteem building, education, skills AND opportunities. Children unconditionally love their parents, irrespective of what flaws they have, so if we cant establish a rapport with the parents, and support them, rather than judge them, we will never be trusted or respected by their tamariki. And the cycle of abuse will continue.
