* Abusetards * ~ © Abhijit, 2014 1. I reached my bank a little too early today, so I parked my car outside, rolled down the windows and waited for it to open. Two young men, about twenty years old or so walked past the car. They were talking jovially, and there was no anger on their faces whatsoever. I overheard their conversation as they walked past my parked car. They were talking in Hindi so I am translating it into English below. Did you watch Interstellar? Bhain ke lund, do you even understand English? 2. I was at Delhis Safdarjung Hospital last weekend with my mother. There was a long queue of patients outside the doctors cabin, and people were waiting patiently. Suddenly, a staff member of the hospital appeared with a man he knew personally and tried to break the line and enter the cabin before the others. A middle aged man standing in the same queue protested. Bhai saab, please come in line. I am a staff member. I am entitled to go in first, he replied. What? There is no such rule? Can you show me the circular that mentions such a rule? Please come in line No, I am going in. Do whatever you can, he replied. Arey, are you a goon? Maaderchod stand quietly or I will throw you out of this hospital. the staff member replied. (At this point I and the others intervened and the staff member was forced to run, but thats not the point.) 3. I have written against the use of abuses before. I think its absolutely insane to use abusive words under any situation, but the insanity crosses all limits when abusive words are used in jovial conversations. Supporters of abusive language (lets call them Abusetards) argue that use of abusive language between friends is a necessary thing, and builds stronger bonds. I think something went seriously wrong somewhere in the education of these people. I have heard even more ridiculous arguments, like people who abuse are purer at heart. I request Abusetards to explain how calling another person a man who fornicates with his mother/ sister is related to purity of the heart in any way? 4. I regularly unfriend people who abuse, and I ban them from this page too. I know not everyone feels so strongly about this, but I do. What we really need now is a Clean India Campaign to cleanse peoples tongues and teach them how to talk without using expletives. I make sure I shut people up if I ever hear them abusing in public. What do you have to say?
