Accelerate in conjunction with McGuire Media is conducting the auditions and selection process for The Recruit Foxtel/ AFL Reality Show. The applications close this Friday 6th of December. Registrations are now open at fox8.tv/shows/the-recruit National selection trials will be held in February 2014. The expansion of the AFL over the last 5 years has created new strains on the player talent pools required to support the growth of the game at the highest level. That is, the need to increase the number of young players with the quality and preparedness required to make a successful transition into a full time AFL career. An innovate alternative pathway has been created and is the most ambitious sports entertainment show attempted on Australian television, offering the biggest prize in Australian professional sport – a spot on an AFL list. The Recruit will broadcast on FOX8 in 2014 and will find a player the AFL recruiters have never seen or have missed. Right now, somewhere out there in Australia is a weekend warrior, a man playing in a local club but dreaming of an AFL career – that man is the winner of The Recruit – and that man is definitely someone within your states networks. The Recruit is open to all footballers who are at least 20 years of age by December 31 2013. Players cannot have been on an AFL list previously or played a senior VFL, SANFL or WAFL game in the past two years. SELECTION The AFL is unique in Australian sport in that the only way to play for a Club is to be recruited via an official AFL Draft. For the first time in AFL history, an official Draft will be convened as the finale for the television series to determine the winning Recruit. That winner is out there now, playing footy somewhere in Australia - it could be a player that missed out on selection in this year’s 2013 AFL Draft.
