Accident. on April 21st we woke up to find our daughter Sophie hanging from her bedroom blind cords, she was taken to hospital by ambulance where it took medical staff 57 minutes to restart her heart.Sophie was made stable and transferred to the paediatric intensive care unit at Newcastle royal victoria infirmary and place into a medically induced coma for 48 hours during this time Sophie developed a chest infection and had to have physio several times a day to clear out her chest.after 48 hours Sophie was taking of all the sedation medication and started to breathe by herself with only a little help from the ventilator however did not show signs of waking up. Sophie was giving a 1% chance of survival.a MRI scan showed Sophie had severe brain damage and a EEG confirmed Sophie only had slight brain activity at the back of her brain. we had to make the devastating decision to turn of her ventilator.on Friday night shortly after midnight we turned of the ventilator and around 3.20am on Saturday 26th April Sophie lost her fight and fell asleep with the angels.Sophie was 2 years and 4 months old and the most beautiful smart funny girl i know she was also very mischievous and you could never keep her clean she touched lives of everyone she met because she was such a little character with bright big blue eyes and a cheeky smile,as parents we made sure Sophie and her brother jaydens bedroom was child proofed with socket covers and safety gates we made sure the windows were locked with keys and even took out the chest of drawers as Sophie climbed on them often. to us there was nothing left in their room that could harm them.
