Accommodation guide: Since my iPhone decided to screw me over with autocorrect Ill be careful this time. If there are any freshers like me last year who went from having secured my accommodation @ Newcastle Uni and been sorted in life for my Art teacher to then decide its perfectly reasonable to give me a C (still not over it) and me lose my place at my firm and end up at my insurance (which I dont regret) youve now got to make a decision on accommodation - not fun. So Ill post an unbiased review of them all. Hopefully thatll help. Towers (both north and south) are shared with 14 (North) or 16 (South) people! Its great for meeting people, youre guaranteed to love and hate at least one person, but thats to be expected with the amount of people. Its great for parties, hence the amount of sports socials held there. But, that does mean it can be noisy at times and its more than likely that at least one flat will be pre drinking each night. One myth is that you have to wait for the showers (theres only 2 in South between 16) but in my time there I cant think of a time where I have. The rooms are a reasonable size but fire alarms (especially if youre on the top floors) will make you want to end it.... Therell also Prollies be a few rivalries between flats and a few pranks but thats all part of the fun plus theyre cheap. (Apppplyyyy for towers!) South Courts: Theyre nice but theyre pricey in comparison, if youre lucky youll get an amazing flat where you become like a little family and get to know the other flats in your building (particularly in Harwich) but, if youre unlucky youll get put with a small group of people that youll never speak to again when you leave.... South Courts are very subjective but my biggest tip would be to get to know a flat in towers if you hate you flat mates you can escape. The rooms are massive and the en-suite is nice as long as you look after it Houses: I know one person in houses, Ive been there once so dont expect a lot of advice. Theyre nice enough, the en-suite is tiny and I can only remember one party there - I feel like only people from houses know people from houses. Meadows: theyre beautiful and youll be the second resident in your room as they opened last year. If you (or your parents) can afford them then theyre nice, theres quite a few parties and its only a fair walk from campus. But, again theyre pricey and if youre considering it, make sure you can afford it. Quays: the bridge is a nightmare, I cant understand it. Most of the people I know who lived there hated it, only a couple of people enjoyed their experience there and thats mainly because they managed to find like minded people and they stuck together.... Literally there is no reason to select Quays unless you want Dominos (which you can get delivered) and Tesco a 2 min walk away. Might be wrong on all of these so dont read too much into my experience, after all it is only mine and Im sure there is 1 person (namely Becca Lawton ;) ) wholl defend Quays. Again any questions post or inbox me or add the king of kings (and education Vice President) Michael Spencer wholl sort you out.
