According to Dr. William E. McCumber, former editor of the Herald of Holiness, tithing is a “human response to God’s grace. It is a way of acknowledging God as the giver of every blessing received and promised.” A tithe is not a bribe to assure God’s blessings, nor is it a legal requirement for Christians; it is a way of providing support for the local church and its ministry. When God’s people tithe, churches can carry out their mission to make Christlike disciples in the nations. Tithing is God’s plan and desire for providing for the church and should be done with a joyful heart of worship and thanksgiving.
