According to John Leonard Monterona, Migrante’s regional coordinator in Middle East, “The OFWs working for Mohammed Al Mojil Group of Companies (MMG), a contractor for Saudi Aramco, are on their four-months ‘stop work’ protest after negotiation failed with their employer who allegedly did not comply with the terms of the job contract.” The 950 workers were victims of contract violations such as delayed payment of salary and working without Iqama (residence ID). Others who have been working for 10 to 15 years have not been given their end-of-service benefits. Monterona, in a statement, criticized Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz for her failure to take immediate action to resolve the problems of the Filipino workers. “When it comes to peddling human labor as cheap as a commodity, the labor department is only willing to spend huge amount and devote their time, while in providing assistance to distressed and problematic OFWs due to numerous labor rights violations, it failed to help solve the woes of our fellow OFWs,” Monterona said. manilastandardtoday/2014/10/26/950-ofws-in-saudi-send-sos/ Oct. 26, 2014
