According to a top government negotiator Aung Min, President Thein Sein is preparing to respond to calls by ethnic nationalities for a federal political system, news reports said. Aung Min spoke at the meeting between the government and the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) on Thursday in Loikaw, the capital of Karenni (Kayah) State. The two sides agreed on an eight-point accord with the aim to strengthen their ceasefire that was signed about a year ago. The pact includes forming a ten-member panel to monitor the ceasefire, holding consultations on development projects, and clearing land mines.
