At the top of that list is Gina Rinehart, who is estimated to have a personal wealth of $22 billion. Wealth inequality in Australia has risen steadily and the rich have been getting richer at the expense of the majority. In the past 50 years the share of national income going to the owners of capital — most of whom are among the highest income earners — has increased from less than 24% of GDP to 37%.
