According to my computer files, 22/08/2014 was when I last worked on my book. So many other things to do during the latest interval taking me away from it. Today Im getting back to it. Not that the other things have gone away. First step is to read over the chapter I started, but havent finished. Its called The world turned upside down. I start it with the impact of glasnost and perstroika on the Irish left. Speaking of receptions at the Soviet embassy in Dublin marking the October revolution every year: At the 70th anniversary celebrations in 1987, there was a special buzz. Not that there wasn’t the usual nonsense, but there was something else in the air for those with eyes to see and ears to hear. There was a sense that history was open-ended. A tired old tale had transmuted into a thriller.
