According to the Bosnian Mine Action Centre, it is believed that there are still unexploded devices on 2.5 per cent of the total territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 17 years after the 1992-95 war, with a total of some 120,000 potentially deadly mines remaining. Since 1992, around 8,000 people have been killed or injured by mines - 6,000 of them during the war, but almost 2,000 afterwards, of whom around 600 have died.
