According to the Census Bureau, the U.S. elderly population will more than double between now and the year 2050, to 80 million. By then, as many as 1 in 5 Americans could be 65+. As we age, our desire to remain involved, content, active and independent is paramount. However, depression and anxiety in the elderly are major concerns that are often difficult to assess and treat. Our course, Aging and Long-Term Care, can help health and mental health professionals better understand this demographic. The course includes biological and physiologic changes of the elderly, long term care, assessments for depression, substance abuse, elder abuse and interventions that are sensitive to the bio-psychosocial needs of the elderly.
