Acts 4:13 - “ Now when they saw the boldness and unfettered eloquence of Peter and John and perceived that they were unlearned and untrained in the schools [common men with no educational advantages], they marvelled; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” Words spoken in harmony with God’s Word work wonders indeed. It is easier to read God in your life than to believe God in your talk. Man has the ability to speak but the Holy Spirit speaks as He wills. If your words are only said in the natural, they may strike the ear but do not the conscience ring. The Words that build people up can only be spoken by the help of the Holy Spirit. No one can prove by miracles that Jesus Christ is the Lord without the help of the Holy Spirit. Here, man’s natural gift, ability to inspire and education were made insufficient in the face of men who operated in the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit. The crowd read God in the lives of the apostles and believed God in their talk. As long as you depend on your eloquence and speaking skills alone, you will continue to speak words that strike the ear but do not the conscience ring. But when you depend on God’s Spirit for strength and assistance, laying your soul under His influence and operations, you will hear yourself, others will hear you and God will hear you. It is dangerous to try and use man’s natural gift to work for God because the challenges ahead of us cannot be overcome without the Holy Spirit. It takes a conscience born of faith to speak God’s Word as He wills. Man’s natural ability needs to be obedient to God’s will before it can receive God’s blessings. Let us humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand and receive His wisdom in the midst of our hearts then He will teach us to speak words that work wonders.
