Ada Public Safety Meeting-April 21, 2014 Police Department Segment. The Police Department discussed 5 items on the meeting agenda. 1.) Police Departments XP Computers 2.) National Night Out 2014 3.) Crosswalks at West Main Pizza 4.) Robertson House Clean-Up (added by Tom Baker) 5.) LockDown at Ada School (added by Tom Baker) Members Present : Chief Bueng, Jim Hansen, Craig Edwards, Steve Petry, Sue Halls, Officer Hager, Shaun Roux, Tom Baker , Roland Atwood, Todd Sawrey. 1.) Chief Bueng informed the committee that the BCA is requiring that all XP operating system comuters currently using the Criminal Justice Data Network be immediately replaced, or the department will face disconnection from the network. The CJDN network is vital to the police departments day to day business operation. The BCA is allowing police departments to continue operation using XP computers as long as they detail their plan for the computers to be replaced in a timely fashion. The department currently has two computers needing to be replaced for the department to meet compliance. The officers police car laptop, and the state computer terminal in Jodys office. Chief Bueng explained his plan for replacement to the group as follows; The police car computer would be replaced with a Panasonic CF-53 Laptop. This computer will cost approximately $2200.00. It will require a $500.00 docking station. Jody would replace Karens computer with a Windows 7 Professional model, and move Karens current computer to Jodys office as the state computer. This would allow for the department to continue to be able to access the former records management program containing 15 years of department reports. Prices are being obtained for the purchase of a professional model computer to complete this process. Jody mentioned he would use the $2600.00 set aside for getting a laptop into the chiefs vehicle first, and then take the additional funds needed from his budget. 2.) Jody updated the group on the National Night Out event for 2014. The date of the 2014 NNO is August 5th, 2014. The event is likely to be held at the fairgrounds again this year. EMS and Fire were asked to begin thinking about their roles at the event this year. Jody also mentioned that funding for the event has been shrinking and he is looking for additional revenue streams that the department could access to help with costs associated with the annual event. Several good ideas were discussed as solutions. 3.) Todd Sawrey requested a recommendation from the Public Safety Committee for the installation of crosswalks on the streets and highway near West Main Pizza. The committee approved recommending the crosswalks be installed at the location. The committee recommendation was needed by the Department of Transportation to moive forward with the crosswalk installation. 4.) House clean up at 207 Jamison Drive. Tom Baker added this to the agenda at the request of Mike Nelson. Mike was curious if the property next door to his could be cleaned up in the near future. The house burned in a fire last fall and is currently boarded up. Mike has complained to the police department about the debris outside of the house blowing around his property. It also could be considered a health hazard. Chief Bueng stated that he has had two recent conversations with the fire marshall regarding the structure. The fire marshall stated that the house is part of an ongoing investigation and cannot be taken down at this time. The fire marshall will let the city know when removal of the house is okay. Jody explained that the fire marshall is in control of the house until she releases it. The marshall did say that public works could clean up outside of the property as long as they dump the cleaned up debris back into the structure. Jody will work with public works to come up with a time they can assist with clean up of the exterior of the house. Jody recommended the city proceed with securing the portion of funds from the insurance company that the city is entitled to recieve to clean up the property. That way when the property is released clean up could begin without delay. 5.) The Ada-Borup school lockdown on 4/15/2014 was added by Tom Baker. Tom asked about the semi-lockdown the school went into on Tuesday when there was an active shooter threat in Norman County. Tom asked if there should have been armned gaurds at the school during the event. Jody felt the school had everything in control and carried out a successful school lockdown. Tom mentioned that a Sheriffs Posse might be useful during an event like that that took place on 4/15. Jody mentioned that there has not been a posse in the county for many years. Jody also mentioned that the Twin Valley Police Department came to Ada and took over law enforcement duties for the City of Ada during the event. Meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
