Adams Words for Wednesday : Episode 4 : Mirrors and Smoke Mirrors and Smoke was the first song we started tracking during the OW&A sessions. As soon as I started laying down some scratch-vocals (vocal recordings done for reference) it felt like this album was off and running! While, in the process, Ive shifted back and forth with my favorite songs on the record. This song will always have a special way of taking my mind and heart back to where we were when we started the album. I have an interesting side note regarding the lyrics: During the early sessions of vocal tracking, we were in-between takes and I started to sing the song in the style of one of my favorite songwriters/performers of all time, Mr. Johnny Cash. It worked surprisingly well! I dont think I really felt these lyrics quite like I did after I realized how awesome it would have been to hear Johnny sing them!
