We honestly believed Mitt Romney had it in the bag. And, the bottom fell out of the bag. As bad as it would be, it is a possibility that must be considered. Maybe considering it will convince others to join the team Have you ever visited a Communist country? Or a middle eastern country. Civilization doesnt apply. Or even a 3rd World country. I have. Yes we have some nonthinkers that that they beat the system by living high on the hog for low monthly costs. If they are lucky, they will live to tell about it. You will always be the gringo. If there is an auto accident, you will always be in the wrong. Do you really believe the neighbors wont begrudge you living better than they in their country? Who will you call in times of need? The local police? And you will pay them how much? And, thats just the 3rd world country. They dont issue traffic tickets, those fines are levied and collected on the street by armed police. A coworker was hit for $200 by an armed cop with a gun in her face in a busy intersection. Somehow she negotiated it down. The norm is to put a $5 with your license and registration and put the rest of your cash in a hidden spot as if the cop sees more, the fine goes up. Mine cost me a $20. In the Czech Republic, you will stop in a money exchange on the way in. No foreign currency allowed in and no Czech currency leaves. It costs money to produce currency. At the rest stop going to Karlovy Vary, next to nothing to buy. Maybe 20 trinkets in total. They didnt appear to be serving food either. The place was quite empty except for the busload. The toilets were pay as you go. Nothing is free in Communism. The doors are extra long to prevent sneak ins. Some of the shops were poorly stocked. Lunch was a cookie, a biscuit actually. You dont think it can happen here. Prague was once considered the most cultural/beautiful city in the world. In neither of these lovely gems will you have a word to say in argument of your side of the issue. We are already seeing some of the things that would grow much worse. The state owned media that only dished the politically approved BS. Ring any bells? Will we see the internet change? Likely. If we get to keep it, it will likely be monitored much more. Fear of Retalliation. Already, people are concerned. They still speak out, but many either fear retribution or have been told they should fear retribution. I know I have been told more than a few times. SHUTTING UP IS NOT THE ANSWER. Goods and Products will disappear or become very scarce in the marketplace. And, the prices will be exorbitant. We are seeing a lessening of shoppers. On Thursday, I went to a normally very busy hair salon for a paintjob. Normally there are a dozen or more hairdressers scurrying around. My hairdresser was scheduled for 10-7. I was her only appointment. About half the hairdressers are black and about half the customers are also. There were 4 customers in the 2 hours I was there. And, one other white woman. The hairdressers were sitting around twiddling their thumbs, hoping for work. Winter should be interesting if not difficult. A full one fourth of the powerplants on the East Coast will be shutting down because they use coal. You know about barrys WAR ON COAL. This winter is to be exceptionally cold here. Maybe we could burn some of the recycled school lunches that the dictatress is trying to shove down kids throats. I could go on and on and on, but you get the drift. Ive lived in one and visited another and I DONT WISH IT ON ANYBODY. YOU WONT LIKE IT. I didnt mention the substandard hospitals, the schools with no desks, the fact that people lived in 95 to 100 degree heat AND ABOUT THE SAME HUMIDITY year round with NO REFRIGERATORS. They walk to a grocery store and buy a fraction of a stick of butter for a meal at a time. Theres no refrigerator for leftovers . ITS EAT IT OR THROW IT AWAY. Their city transit system is OUR worn out school busses WITH NO AIR CONDITIONING. Often there is livestock on the bus with you. The driver is FULLY QUALIFIED based on finishing the 6TH GRADE. PANAMA doesnt spend a dime making currency. They use American dollars. Grown men and teenage boys pee in the street of 3 lane roads in the center of the city. That is right next to the upright 50 gallon drum that is their cookstove for dinner. Its more convenient that way. No need to walk to the bathroom and no need to clean it. Laundry is normally flown from the 2nd floor balcony. Im sure lots of exhaust fumes are filtered by the wet sheets and garments floating in the wind. See any parts of your day that youd like to change to this lifestyle? I dont. I wouldnt wish it on anyone. Didja know that the deadbolt on your apartment can be kind of useless to the banditos climbing up the balconies and walking in your windows. Yup, it happens. And, Cholera Bay is just across the street. An 8 foot sign warns against eating any fish from the water. Yet, Im sure they have no problem selling it to Americans at the local eating establishents. IS THIS THE WAY YOU WANT TO LIVE? Lets talk about jewelry. Loads of it there. Loads of gold. Loads of jewelry shops. I bought more than most. I laid it out on a queen sized bed to photo for insurance. It looked like someone barfed 18k. YET, I WAS TOLD REPEATEDLY THAT IT WAS NOT SAFE TO WEAR IT IN THAT COUNTRY. Earrings would be yanked, ear and all. Neckchains yanked also. I did see some in shops that had been yanked. They had no closing hardware. I was told that any one of my rings would result in a finger being hacked off to take the ring. SO, IT IS A BIRDCAGE EXISTENCE. YOU CAN BUY THE STUFF, BUT CANNOT WEAR IT. YOU CAN HAVE A BEAUTIFUL APARTMENT, WHICH I DID, BUT IT IS A CAGE. When you leave it, you will be totally unprotected. IF THIS IS THE LIFE YOU WANT, STAY HOME IN NOVEMBER. IF NOT, GET EVERYBODY YOU CAN HAUL OUT TO VOTE IN NOV. IT IS EXACTLY THAT IMPORTANT.
