[Admin note] Cjs post raising a variant of the outsider test of faith has been deleted at his request. As I said in the now-deleted thread, asserting that believers or unbelievers are mentally ill is unacceptable, and will result in post deletion. I dont expect non-theists to respect religion as a concept. I do expect them to respect the choice that an autonomous person exercising their free will makes if they elect to become a religious believer. Ditto for a person who chooses non-belief. Accusing people of being mentally ill because they make a choice which you do not like not only is offensive, but continues to stigmatise mental illness. Please try not to do it. I think Aron Ras comment on this subject is on the money: I think religion provides a haven to conceal quite a lot of cognitive and psychiatric disorders as well as some social dysfunctions.
