Adolescent(teenage) pregnancy has become rampant in our society; and indeed, one of the major causes of school drop-outs for the girl-child. Due to their new status as baby mothers, a large number if these girls never return to school after the birth of their babies. Stigmatization has also been identified as one of the principal reasons hindering them from taking a second chance at meeting their aspirations. This situation, if not checked will pose a serious problem at meeting the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs- 2,3&6), and human resource gap which will result to increasing poverty and its attendant consequences . The Second Chance Initiative therefore, is an initiative that seeks to create opportunity for young people and girls who are victims of circumstances such as rape and other gender based violence. SCI empowers the target group to create solutions in response to these challenges.
