Advanced Technology & Scientific Approach Needed to Tackle Disasters: Dr Jitendra KISHTWAR || To assess the damages caused due to recent floods and landslides in Kishtwar District, Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences (independent charge) MoS in Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic energy and Department of space, convened a detailed meeting of all the district officers at District Headquarter Kishtwar. While addressing the meeting, Dr Jitendra Singh that Union Government is fully committed to provide all sorts of relief to the flood affected people in the entire state. But both the people and the administration need to gear up for effective prevention and proper handling of these natural disasters. The Minister impressed for an innovative and scientific approach to tackle the disasters and said that with scientific creative methods, both loss of life and property can be minimized. He said that a special rural management programme is needed to cater to the specific problems of all the hilly states of India and full use of satellite mapping and other techniques should be made in this regard. Dr Jitendra singh said that the Government at the centre, has laid emphasis on the schemes like PMGSY and employment generation and road connectivity to rural habitations have been prioritized. He called for the involvement of all the sections of society in the development of the nation and said that role of common masses and civil society is imperative for the inclusive developmentof the country.
