Advent Week 1: Hope This week we began the season of advent and our focus was on hope. The passage that we read from was Jeremiah 33:14-16. In this season we celebrate with the giving of gifts, parties, food and decorations but the gift that was given to us was far more valuable than any of this. In this season Hope was born. Prior to the coming of the Messiah hope did not exist as we were under the law and the law was insufficient to provide salvation. We were doomed to suffer the full punishment for our sins, for our rebellion against God, but God had other plans. Before time began he laid the plans and set the date for our hope to be birthed to redeem lost humanity from the pit. Our hope, a hope not based in uncertainty but a guarantee paid for in blood, was birthed this season. This hope is that of an eternity with the very God who created us and made a plan to redeem us at his own cost. This Christmas season celebrate that Hope and teach your children about this hope that they may share in it with you. Give them the gift of the knowledge of our great and glorious God. May the reminder of this Hope that we have in Christ transform your celebration of this Christmas season.
