Adventures with the TSA: The blue shirted drones seemed - TopicsExpress

Adventures with the TSA: The blue shirted drones seemed particularly upbeat today about their tasks. Maybe its the fresh air and polite atmosphere. I started my pat down with the standard questions, and used the first opportunity that I could. Would you like to be screened here, or in a private area? The young agent asked. No I replied. No? As in you dont want a screening room or to be checked here? He asked confusedly. No, I dont want to be violated by the government today. Is that an option? You can go through the scanner, just look it up on the internet, theyre completely safe he cheerful answered. Are you a technician, or is that what youre told to say? I asked. Haha, well, its the government, you know how they dont tell us anything he laughed. The stranger began his procedural touching of my body. Dont you want to be safe? He asked as he was running his hands along my torso. Dont get me wrong, I think security is important. This should be a private security company. What makes it wrong is this is the Federal Government, and I have not done anything to warrant this searching of myself or my belongings. I stated. Well, they hire us, and I just want to do my job he said. How many other people have said the same thing throughout human history, where the job was doing something wrong? How did that turn out? I questioned. He looked at me like he understood. My pat down was actually not as thorough as most of them have been. I challenged him. Do me a favor. As I can go online as search for information about body scanners, will you go online and lookup how what youre doing keeps us all less safe, by violating our rights? Sure, why not he said. He smiled and waved. Did I make an impact on him? Ill never know. I can hope the people standing there listening to our conversation took something important away from it. Being civilly disobedient, or challenging those who are naively doing wrong, doesnt mean being rude. It means being civil. Non-aggression starts with us, not in our words, but in how we act. - Michael
