Advice for starting a band and making it big in the music scene? This is a great question i get asked a lot, and just did through a message. Ill keep their identity private but this is what they asked: John Doe: Hey man.. I just wanted to say whats up real quick and also ask you a question. . I am in a metalcore band and I dream of making it big, I know that the reality is that I probably wont but Im still dreamin.. but I just wanted to ask you for any advice you can give me on getting my band noticed.. and if you can tell me the rout you took to get noticed.. Me: Hey John, its definitely a great dream to have but i would encourage you to switch your focus from getting big to making a meaningful impact. That is where the true victory is. Secondly, my best advice would be to knit together the most passionate hearts you can and form a band with them. The grind of making it in the music industry takes an obscene amount of effort with barely any monetary return so you MUST be passionate and equally yoked with your members or you will cave and burn out fast. Third, never ever ever ever take a single fan/supporter for granted. if you play a show and only 3 people come out, dont get bummed and dont give them a half ass show, play your heart out always or dont play at all. thats all i got!
