• Advice to those students who will take solid mensuration this coming semester. Several students have the hard time dealing with Mathematics and sometimes cursed this subject. But why most students hate Mathematics? Maybe because they are confused with numbers or they just don’t understand most of the concepts of this subject. But the thing that makes this subject difficult for many students is that it takes patience and persistence. Solid mensuration is a part of Mathematics specially in dealing Geometry since it’s about measuring various solids in volume, area, height, length and etc. When we say “Measuring” we will deal about computation and that’s what students hate to do because as what many say it’s somewhat confusing and difficult. But students can’t avoid this subject since it was part of the curriculum and also a part of our lives. How can students easily deal with solid mensuration? Many say that the only way to deal with mathematics is to solve and solve, and compute and compute but when it comes to mensuration students can use memorization and understanding to make measuring easier. Mathematics is a cumulative discipline, which means it works much like a stack of building blocks. You to have to gain understanding in one area before you can effectively go on to another area. In solid mensuration, students must be aware of the units of measurement such as meter and gram in metric system and foot and pound in English metric system. And as students became aware of these measurements they will now deal with the equations in computing measures of various solids. Memorizing equations is not enough, but with understanding it will be a great help in mensuration. If you know the equation to be used in measuring, it will be more comfortable to compute because equation serves as a guide in tracing the desired measurement. And units of measurement are as important as the equation because there comes a time that you might have the right measurement but you failed in placing the correct unit of measure or there comes a time that you may be confused with foot and meter or gram and pound since they are not in the same unit value. Aside from understanding, one of the best advices in dealing with this subject is practice. You must practice to perfect something or to be good at something. There is no one who can best help the students but the students themselves as they become responsible in studying. No matter where you start and where you struggle, you must make sure you acknowledge any weak spots in your foundation and fill, fill the holes with practice and understanding.
