Affordable HealthCare Act... or not so affordable is more like it. As a Certified Broker for the State of Maryland I have some facts I would like to share with you all and please share this information with you friends, family and co-workers. 1). FACT: The Affordable HealthCare Act is not affordable. I ran a plan the Monday on a 40 yr old male, healthy. He qualified for getting his own plan today which he could keep in 2014. The plan was with UnitedHealthCare. It offered unlimited doctor visits, with NO DEDUCTIBLE, unlimited generic medications, with NO DEDUCTIBLE, and a $500 deductible on brandname and formulary brand medications after which they had a $35 co-pay and $65 co-pay. The main deductible was on hospital services for both in-patient and out patient facilities. The monthly premium was $148. Then I ran a similar plan under the exchange. He made too much money to qualify for federal assistance. His monthly premium would be $445! We are talking 3 times more expensive for the Affordable HealthCare Act plan over the underwritten plan. Now, let me ask you all, " do you call this Affordable? Hell no. Oh, the exchange plan cared a $6350 out of pocket (deductible and co-insurance combined) and the UnitedHealth plan had a $2500 deductible on the hospital services only side of the insurance. 2). FACT: If you have never had a heart attack, cancer, diabetes, stroke and could go thru underwriting, BUY YOU INSURANCE NOW and you get to keep it thru 2014 and will save 2-3 times that over a ObamaCare Plan. You also have the ability to have your health plan designed around YOUR NEEDS, and not the needs of the insurance company. 3). FACT: About 60%- 70% of the USA population will not qualify for federal assistance with their Affordable Health Care Act Plan. 4). FACT: A 25 yr old male, in Maryland today can get a wonderful health plan on his own for about $120 month. A similar plan under the Affordable HealthCare Act will cost him about $250 month. They have jacked up the monthly premiums on the 20-30 yr olds about 190% to cover the " people that will get federal assistance " on their plans under the Affordable Health Care Act. Not very fair now is it?! 5). FACT: HealthCare Reform Act went online on October 1st for enrollment. I received and email from the state exchange on September 30th at 11:42PM that included a 878 page " Brokers Guide" to help assist people that wanted to register on the exchange that never works, is always down, and GOD only knows when when it will be up and running. There you go folks the update I promised you! Call me at 410-643-3149 should you have questions you would like answered.
