African Leadership Academy: Finance Intern Description The Academy seeks to appoint an experienced finance professional for a short term internship to conduct analytics for special projects and to develop robust financial management systems and tools. About the Academy African Leadership Academy (africanleadershipacademy.org) is founded on the philosophy that a new generation of ethical, committed leaders is the key to Africa’s development. The Academy seeks to become training ground for these future leaders of Africa. The Academy draws the most outstanding students from all 54 countries in Africa to its campus in South Africa, where they build a powerful intellectual foundation and develop their leadership capacity through ALA’s unique curriculum in Entrepreneurial Leadership. Desired Experience •Experience working in a finance function or in financial services and currently enrolled in a top tier MBA programme •High level of critical thinking ability to formulate business issues into analytical problems and devise actionable solutions •Comfortable working with large volumes of data and diligence when managing detail •Advanced MS-Office skills especially excel & power point •Professional financial modelling experience with proficiency in using VBA Macros, SQL or similar computer program that can help build flexible models and dashboards preferred •Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work with cross-functional teams •Excellent written and oral communication skills •Highly self-motivated and able to work independently Roles & Responsibilities •Working closely with the CFO on several major strategic projects including: oDesign, document and roll out the financial assistance (student loan) system oOptimise the Academy’s processes for all current finance activities and develop policies and procedures forhigh priority activities oBuild models, report and KPIs that will allow other department plug-into the finance organisation and finance to improve on reporting to senior management oResearch, evaluate and test forecasting software and models •Assist the CFO in other ad-hoc financial analysis and responding to business intelligence related queries Internship duration and start date: Six to eight weeks from June 2014 Compensation: none, modest stipend towards accommodation Location: Johannesburg, South Africa To Apply: Interested candidates should send a CV to [email protected] with ‘Candidate for Finance Intern’ in the subject line; a brief cover letter should be addressed to Ms. Lara Rabiu, Chief Financial Officer.
