Afrika is a land of contrasts. Take Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, these countries have only one or two tribes who intermarry and speak a common language, yet these countries are politically unstable. On the other extreme is Nigeria with over 100 tribes and is equally unstable. Tanzania with about the same population is stable. Kenya with 42 tribes has been fairly stable apart from the 2007/8 post election violence. Kenya has been fairly stable because it is not possible to have a majority of tribes ganging up against the rest. In the 2007/8 post election violence it was like 40 tribes against 1. In Nigeria, the instability is due to religion (Muslims/Christians) and regions which are also divided along religious lines. Why do Afrikans believe that it is only one of their tribe/clan who can rule?
