After 10 days of ceremonies, visits and great encounters, we returned to Brussels airport this morning. During that time, the group and the veterans bounded into one group of friends. It was a very intense period, but unbelievable moments, filled with emotions. A highlight yesterday was the afternoon meeting with HM King Philippe and HM Queen Mathilde and their children. The veterans enjoyed every moment at the Royal Palace in Laken. The day ended with a unbelievable buffet, offered by the Belgian army in Peutie. No one kept his eyes dry when 99th Infantry Division Veteran Clayton Christensen received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart handed over by US Major Richard Peacock, followed by the news that 818th MP Coy Veteran George Merz will receive the Légion dHonneur beginning next year. The evening was just great, with the very appreciated presence of Mr. Mark Storella of the US Embassy and LtGen Clement of the Belgian army. After a well-earned rest, everyone left to their homes in the USA. It has been an honor to have organized this return and be in the presence of these men! Photos will follow soon. Now, time for some rest...
