After 3 months of living out of my suitcase, traveling back and - TopicsExpress

After 3 months of living out of my suitcase, traveling back and forth from Nanaimo to Vancouver, I was seriously thinking of a permanent move. It has been a time of reflection, in between advocating for my daughters health and well being, and playing on the Vancouver streets, and in the stations.. I am almost 60 years old and I have been gigging for a very long time, busking and performing in coffee houses for even longer. Recent events around busking issues in Nanaimo made me feel that it was time to move on. 2 business owners with bad attitudes about buskers just made me feel like throwing in the towel. The Bylaws have been a thorn in my side for a very long time. Incidents with police and Port Authority left me with a very sour taste in my mouth. Certain politicians have told me that if they got elected the busking issue would be revisited. That remains to be seen. Will they walk the walk after the big talk? Life is all about choices and I choose not to buy into the busking scene in Nanaimo. I am finally okay with that! Musically, I have changed direction after playing with the same person for more than 16 years. That is tough but flogging dead horses hurts all concerned. I am involved in a recording project, and I have a fine group of people to play original music with on a regular basis. Having spent some time in the open mic jam sessions in Vancouver, I know that I am not prepared to settle for lousy wages in the bars anymore. I am finally okay with that too! Before I was a musician, I wore many hats, wife, mother, baker, cook, knitter, cannery worker, waitress and lighthouse keeper. I have been an advocate for social and political change in my journeys. That will never change. Freedom is movement , and I have just moved four times in three months. It is all good.
