After Jorges passing on Friday, his body was in organ recovery for several hours. Initially the thought of it went against every nerve in our body. We can gratefully say that we came to peace with it very gently and slowly as the doctors ensured that many ethical criterion had to be met. Many tests were done; some of them numerous times to,assure us that there was no blood flow from cell to cell left in his brain. The bible passage Isaiah 40:11; He tends His flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young. has long been a text that we held dear, and now it holds still more meaning. We were more comfort proceeding when we asked if we could include a message with every donation made. They very gratefully (and tearfully) allowed us to convey this message that was on our heart,and which my sister Lydia Kruidhof beautifully transcribed into a card: This precious gift to you came at a price to us. We had to lose our son so you could receive it. We will gladly give it because of the Gift we have received - which was far more precious. It also came at a price of someones Life: Our Saviour Jesus Christ. His gift to us not only extends our earthly life, but gives the promise of eternal life. Please make it your lifes goal to find that greatest gift. In the end it will mean far more to you than the gift we gave today. For God so loved the World that He gave His Only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. - John 3:16 When it became evident that Jorge would not live, the three men: Nick Ewald, Niel Bareman, and Jan Harink all felt like the traumatizing time they had resuscitating him was all in vain. We as Jorges family will be ever grateful to them for the time we and Jorges many friends could spend saying our goodbyes, and now through organ donation we may have touched a number of lives with salvation.
