After Peter had denied Jesus 3x, he felt like a failure and decided to go back to fishing (i.e. he wanted to quit and go back to the familiar). He finds himself back in a boat, toiling, catching nothing. Jesus blesses him again with a boat load of fish (like in Luke 5). This makes Peter jump out of the boat, rushing to get to Jesus. What came fist? Peter running back to Jesus, or Jesus blessing Peter? God first shows Peter unconditional love and super abounding grace and blessings (i.e. a net breaking catch of fish), and this sign of unconditional grace makes Peter run back to Jesus. Peter jumped out of the boat to swim to Him, which meant he wanted to get back to Jesus asap! Then Jesus restores Peter publicly 3x. Peter denied Him 3x, so Jesus asks him 3x Do You Love Me?. I love you Lord! Feed My sheep. What Jesus was saying to peter was that his past failures did not disqualify him from doing what God had originally called him to do as a disciple. From there Peter goes on the be one of the main leaders in the book of Acts and two of his letters to the New Testament church gets forever recorded in the Bible, so that we today can still benefit from the lesson that Peter learn. Gods grace removed his doubt, fear and guilt from the past, and empowered him to feed His sheep (i.e. do what God had called him to do). Allow God to love you unconditionally and bless you abundantly, and like Peter, He will wipe out your past and do extraordinary things in you and through you! You are His masterpiece, created to do great things! (Eph 2:10)
