After a 134 day siege the YPG spokesperson Polat Can has just announced the complete liberation of Kobane city from ISIS. ISIS still occupy around 300 villages in the Canton of Kobane but they have suffered a huge defeat at the hands of the defenders of the Rojava revolution. The battle of Kobane highlighted the previously almost unnoticed Rojava revolution taking place in the t Kurdish cantons of Northern Syria. This revolution aims to create a democratic, ecological, gender liberated society involving a system of neighbourhood councils that draws delegates from all the ethnic groups found in the region. As such it offers a profoundly different model to both ISIS and the various US backed states in the region.
