After a lot of discussion, on line and in the newsroom, I am reposting Ryans story here with a different photograph. (We have already removed the photo from our website.) But I cannot change the photo on my original post below. Facebook makes that impossible. The only way to take down the photo would be to remove the entire post and all the comments, negative and positive, below. I think that would be the wrong choice, since I would be losing an important community conversation - and running the risk of people thinking I took down the post to avoid or hide criticism. So, after a great deal of reflection (and technical consultation) I am leaving up my original posting. Please feel free to continue this important community discussion, either on this post, or on the original thread below.
