After a number of Kensington Estates neighbors contacted Corinths - TopicsExpress

After a number of Kensington Estates neighbors contacted Corinths Mayor and Police Chief, they met with TxDot officials. I wonder if one of them was the unhelpful TxDot woman who told Kensington Estates annual meeting last Spring, If you cant turn left out of Kensington Estates onto FM 2181, you can just turn right, drive down to Northwood, do a u-turn through their neighborhood, then turn right! Tell me how THAT solution will work when Northwoods one entrance is torn up when the north side of the road enters destruction? Heres what the Mayors office sent: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FM 2181 CONSTRUCTION PROJECT UPDATE---NOVEMBER 3, 2014 On 11/03/14 the mayor, city manager, public works director and police chief met with TXDOT officials to discuss action to assist in the reduction of traffic congestion and accidents on FM 2181 / Windsor Parkway. The following items were suggested and agreed upon; 1. Request a reduced speed limit of 35 mph for the entire length of FM 2181; this will be the second request to TXDOT. The city manager will forward a letter to appropriate TXDOT officials. 2. Increase police presence at FM 2181 / Windsor Parkway during peak traffic times. 3. Request TXDOT to use high strength concrete at the Windsor Parkway so that it can be reopened quickly after it is poured. 4. Request increased maintenance on Windsor Parkway where it connects to FM 2181 so that vehicles maintain traction. 5. Additional signage Orange/Black alerting traffic to reduced speeds requested from TXDOT. Project Manager, Mark Wiley will make the request. Which jurisdiction is responsible for the road construction? Who do I contact with questions? The 2181 construction project is under the jurisdiction of and funded by the State of Texas utilizing private contractors for the construction. Contact Mark Wiley, Project Manager for questions or concerns by phone at 940-387-1414 or by email at [email protected]. Who designates the speed limits in construction areas? Speed limits are determined prior to construction beginning by engineers of TXDOT based on traffic flow, sight lines, use of concrete barriers and state regulations. Can our City Council change the speed limits established by the State of Texas? Requests can be directed to the State of Texas for consideration. On this project, a request was submitted by our City Council to reduce speeds. The request was denied by TXDOT. When will the project be completed? The projected completion date proposed by TXDOT is July of 2015, however can change due to weather or construction related issues. Does the City of Corinth work closely with the state representatives as construction progresses? Our public works and police departments work closely with TXDOT on a daily basis regarding the project plans and construction phases and to provide updates to our citizens. On occasion TXDOT and/or their contractors must deviate from their initial plans due to issues that arise during the construction phase with little or no notice. TXDOT, our public works and police departments strive to provide as much advanced notice as possible as these changes arise. Can four-way stop signs be placed on 2181 at intersecting residential streets? Due to the volume of traffic on 2181 this is not feasible as it would create extended traffic delays and backups. Can temporary traffic signals be erected on 2181 at intersecting residential streets? Due to the short term duration of the project and the infrastructure required, TXDOT determined that this is not a viable option. What can be done to reduce the number of accidents on 2181 during construction? The safety of our citizens is the #1 concern for TXDOT and the City of Corinth. Due to the ongoing construction citizen drivers are encouraged to remain patient and ensure ample distance between them and oncoming traffic. Please ensure that you drive with heightened awareness and extreme focus.
