After a pretty easy run through Guatemala ( wow this was only yesterday , feels like a week ago !) I came up on a long traffic jamb , and while thinking about which way to tackle this , Old Matey come cruising passed on his road/trail 125 and waves for me to follow . I couldnt work out what the problem was with the traffic , but there was about 2 miles of semis lined up . Following Ol Matey , for a while we stop .... AT the Border Crossing !!! , Wow , this really surprised me , how quick I had crossed Guatemala ! Short story is Ol Mate , David ? is a helper type . But he is good ! He has me dragging out papers and is barging in front of the officials , getting things stamped and in rough English telling me what to do . I took a little charge of things and we had a negotiation about PRICE . Got that sorted and following David and throwing some of my limited knowledge of how things might go in the best interests of Economy , like already having photocopies done and brought from Aus with me . Another whirlwind of officialdom , but this time way more convoluted . But without any costs which was a pleasant surprise . Over to the El Salvador side to import the bike , and 3 really friendly staff helped me as much as their system allowed . Well they helped , when they got back from Lunch !! One guy filled out a form by hand , and checked the VIN on the bike , then I signed his hand written form , twice . Then he shook my hand , and passed the form to another bloke who , took the information from it and entered it into his computer . His typing speed makes me look fast BTW . So after a while , he can print something which I sign again twice , plus another signature on the back of the paper , AND Im good to go !! Well I go 100 meters and get asked to show this form . And get asked for $5 for local council road tax . Mmmmm , its OK , I get a receipt and finally leave the frontier .
