After all of the information Ive provided so far I still think its important to ask the question, Why nutrition? Despite the fact that many nutritional advocates, wellness consultants, integrative medicine specialists, functional medicine doctors, and on and on, recommend doing a detox or a cleanse, you have to ask why? As an aside, note that a typical family practitioner would not necessarily be included in this list because they are not often taught nutrition in their schools. Dr Mark Hyman along with the Cincinnati Institute are trying to change that, by the way. I like to give the analogy that all the essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, essential nutrients, and even essential movements, all act as a Lego set for our bodies. Imagine that youve built an extremely complex model that took you weeks to build. Youre very proud of the work youve done. It articulates and has a motor, makes sounds, and has a very nice remote control (this is a fancy set!). Unfortunately, the dog crashes into it and pieces scatter everywhere. You do your best to put it back together but you just cant find that one missing piece. Which piece is missing? I dont know. It could prevent the cool robotic arms from moving, or prevent the wheels from turning. Or maybe its just a superficial piece that allows it to still function. You know it still bothers you though that its not complete, but at least it works. Someone else might not notice, but you will. Nutrition is funny that way. We dont often realize that something is missing until its too late. We accept things as normal, but they dont have to be. What were all trying to do is give you the opportunity to feel, perform, and think your best so you can see for yourself. Its only 10 days of your life and, if everything you have done so far has allowed you to reach your goals, then feel free to continue doing what you are doing. But, if youre struggling through aches and pains, stomach issues, tendinitis, headaches, arthritis, sleeplessness, frequent urination, and on and on, you owe it to yourself to see how diet may be affecting you. drhyman/blog/2014/02/25/mark-hymans-10-day-detox-diet-burn-fat-lose-weight-fast/
