After all the awful happenings of yesterday, I found myself in - TopicsExpress

After all the awful happenings of yesterday, I found myself in need of some escape, and (naturally, I guess) I made my way to the movies. I sat in the packed theater, lost not in the story, but in my own dark reflections on the day. I was feeling pessimistic about the state of our industry and the future of storytelling and art in our culture. And then, I noticed everyone else. My fellow moviegoers. Of all ages. Excited. Caught up in the narrative. They laughed. They cheered. I even saw them cry. And I watched their faces the rest of the night, feeling happier. Because these faces reminded me why we work in entertainment. And why America loves the movies. Stories give us hope. They inspire us to be better people, to change our surroundings, to make bigger adventures of our lives. They feed and nurture an often-overlooked necessity inside us: fun. And that... well, no one can take that away unless we let them.
