After all the people were baptized, Jesus was baptized. As he was praying, the sky opened up and the Holy Spirit, like a dove descending, came down on him. And along with the Spirit, a voice: “You are my Son, chosen and marked by my love, pride of my life.” (Luke 3:21-22 MSG) Baptism by those who follow Jesus is a ritual that provides believers with a means of grace. It symbolizes a washing of our souls from following the ways of ourselves to following the ways of God. It leaves us both clean and vulnerable. Both are necessary in a life dedicated to following this man, Jesus. First, we need to be washed of those things that are not in line with who Jesus is. I cant tell others what those things are for them, I only know what they are for me. Vulnerability is then what makes us aware of the things that hinder us. Every time I witness a baptism, I am called back to my own baptism, and I am allowed again to experience the love and grace of God through Jesus in my soul and in my life. How thankful I am for that bath-tizing! Lord how thankful I am today for your love and grace. I pray today for the friends I have who do not know your love.
