After an intensive 2 month investigation, Sheriff Dennis Meeks states that Corrections Officer Christopher Lee Nelson of the Covington County Jail has been arrested on 27 counts of Promoting Prison contraband 3rd Degree. The investigation revealed the facts that Nelson would bring unauthorized items into the jail in exchange for monetary compensation on numerous dates over the 2 month span.Christopher Lee Nelson , 36 w/m, of Kinston, Al has been an employee of the Covington County Jail for approximately 3 years. He is currently incarcerated in the Covington County Jail with a bond of $15,000 per charge with total amount of $405,000. He has been terminated from his job.” It is the duty of our correction officers to enforce the rules and regulations of the Covington County Jail not use them for their own personal gain. But when that happens and the safety and security of the jail could possibly be compromised, then I will have that officer prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows. We have worked hard the past eight years to build the reputation of the Jail and its staff and will continue hiring and training well qualified officers to monitor our facility.”
