After being nominated by Rozzmery Palenzuela Vicente, I have compiled a list of the top 10 movies that have affected me or hold some type of importance to me. There is no specific ranking to these because its just too hard to decide! 1. Lion King (1994) I will never stop associating this film with my childhood. I remember being so into this movie that I had a stuffed Simba and Nala and magnets in their noses would make them kiss haha. Its a simple story, but its beautifully executed with interesting characters and its just a great achievement from an animation standpoint. 2. Across the Universe (2009) I have this film to thank for helping me discover my all-time favorite band, The Beatles. I love the 1960s era and this film does a great job of reflecting the major themes and issues relevant to the period, all through beautiful covers of the Fab Fours songs. 3. Napoleon Dynamite (2004) Another one very relevant to my youth, this film will always be special to me. Its just so quotable, which I love in a movie. I probably memorized 90% of the script at one point haha. Its style of humor was something I had never really seen before! 4. Bourne Trilogy (2002-2005) Jason Bourne is one of those characters that has always been very compelling to me. Hes a great alternative to the Bond spy character and I especially love the cinematography in this series. Anyone who can take you down with a ballpoint pen or a rolled up magazine is pretty awesome! 5. 50/50 (2011) Ive only seen this one once or twice but I just remember relating to Joseph Gordon Levitts character so much. I cant imagine what thoughts would be going through my head if I found out my life was in jeopardy at such a young age. I distinctly remember appreciating the balance between drama and comedy in this film. 6. Pay it Forward (2000) This is a film I can honestly say has affected who Ive become as a person. The performances of Kevin Spacey and Haley Joel Osment are awesome and I just love the concept of PIF. Paying it forward is something I think everyone should partake in when they can and I just think its a great way to live a more altruistic and meaningful life. 7. Forrest Gump (1994) Lieutenant Dan!! Aside from the amazing performances of Tom Hanks, Sally Field, Robin Wright, and Gary Sinise, I love this film because of Forrest as a character. Hes someone who has the odds against him, but that doesnt stop him from doing great things. He always enters a situation with the best intentions and never acts maliciously. I also love how convincingly his life was integrated and made relevant in a historical setting. 8. Star Wars (Yes, all six of them!) I could go on forever about why I love this series. Interesting and relatable characters, a compelling overarching story, awesome scifi technology.... the works. Above all else though is the universe itself. The world of Star Wars is the deepest, must elaborate setting for a film series Ive ever seen, which allows for unlimited possibilities when it comes to stories and characters. If I could pick any fictional world to live in, it would undoubtedly be this one. Oh, and John Williams, duh! 9. Her (2013) I love films that are relevant to todays ever-changing world, especially when it has to do with technology. Sometimes there are those films that youre meant to see at a particular time in your life... thats what this was for me. It really really hit home. I had a relationship end the previous year and I just remember being so freaked out in the theatre because of the several similarities between my experience and the plot of the film. 10. The Dark Knight Trilogy (205-2012) If you know me well you should be wondering by now why theres been no mention of Batman. Best is for last! Ive loved this character since my childhood but it was this series that made Bruce Wayne a REAL and believable character to me. The grounded and dark style of Christopher Nolan, the performances of all the cast, Hanz Zimmers score.... it doesnt get much better. Jack Rowland, Brandon Martell, Kyle Ridgeway, Kyle Gagne... you sirs are nominated to compile your own lists!
