After decades of freedom struggle and innumerable sacrifices, the country finally attained freedom in 1947. In this poem the old guards pass the baton to younger generation and instruct them to carry on with great care and fortitude so that the freedom won by great efforts of several generations is sustained and the country moves on the path to progress. This poem by Pradeep moistened the eyes of a generation of Indians, especially the last stanza that exhorts the young Indians not to be complacent in the present glory but work hard to take a sky high leap of progress. The poem was also used as a song in the old hit Hindi film Jagriti - Rajiv Krishna Saxena
