After much anxiety, the shearing is done. I have always done it - TopicsExpress

After much anxiety, the shearing is done. I have always done it myself, because Im a little bit particular about neatness and because I can be as patient and slow as they need me to be to decrease their stress during the whole ordeal. This year, because there are more now than there used to be and Im more time-poor than I used to be, I called a shearer in to do the job for me. Ill admit it - I was nervous. I didnt know the shearer, many of these sheep havent ever been shorn by anyone else, and I couldnt help but imagine all sorts of things going wrong. I didnt need to worry, as it turned out. While nobody *enjoyed* it, the whole process was as smooth and as kind as it could be. We now have a bunch of sheep who I hardly recognise, but who have all forgiven me (with the help of some weet-bix and some nice scratches of their newly-accessible itchy spots). :) Everyone spent the first few hours running about feeling 10 times lighter and more comfortable, then settled down to rub themselves on trees and posts. I love watching them after shearing - they obviously feel so much better not stuck under all that heavy, grass seed-filled wool! A big thank you to Mark Wales who was very understanding and tolerant of my worried hovering around while he did the job - appreciate it Mark! Check out the baldies!
