After passing in the House, an omnibus spending bill full of anti-democracy riders and handouts to their special interest donors is likely to pass in the Senate and will soon land on President Obamas desk. Among other deplorable add-ons to this bill, one set of provisions adds to the damage already done to our democracy by Citizens United and McCutcheon v. FEC by significantly increasing the amount that donors can give party committees to over $1.5 million. According to Common Cause, Obama has already indicated he intends to sign this bill. Ive asked President Obama to veto this awful bill -- will you join me? Take action with Common Cause at commoncause.org/Veto Heres what I said: My understanding is that you have indicated you intend to sign the FY 2015 Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act when it reaches your desk. I respectfully, but adamantly, implore you to reconsider. This bill is full of political payback for campaign donors - and, on the heels of Citizens United and McCutcheon v. FEC, provisions within this bill designed to loosen limits to campaign donations by wealthy special interests even more would further undermine representative democracy itself. The choice between a government shutdown and this toxic cocktail of special interest giveaways is an unconscionably bad piece of legislation. Please veto this spending bill and urge Congress to pass a clean bill that funds our government with *no strings attached.
