After reading The Animal Activist Handbook, I have been thinking about the idea in there of convincing a vegan billionaire to become a donor to animal charities. I think Bill Gates would be a good choice given that he has already invested in various substitute-meat companies and is highly interested in effectiveness. However, the Gates Foundation has no resources currently allocated to animals. I emailed them asking if they would consider donating a small percentage to animal causes but (not surprisingly) received no response. What do you guys think would be the best way to get Bill Gates attention to point out to him that giving even 1% of the foundations resources to animal causes would be in line with his current goals and would also help reduce world hunger? Should we try with a petition on change.org? Or a letter signed by academics? Should we ask a vegan celebrity to ask him publicly? Tell someone with a famous blog to ask him? Any other ideas?
