After reading the source, it seems and looks like that we today arent as rational and logical as we assume when were in debates or conversations about virtually any topic(s). The present climate of distrust in our reasoning capacity draws much of its impetus from the field of behavioral economics, and mainly from work from Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky in the 1980s it was summarized by Mr. Kahnemans bestselling Thinking, Fast, and Slow (2011). In it, Kahneman divides the conscious-mind into two allegorical systems, the intuitive System 1, which often gives false answers, and the reflective reasoning of System 2. The attentive System 2 is who we think we are, he explains, but its the intuitive biased irrational System 1 thats in charge most of the time. This is a scientised variation of original sin, and its pretty eager adoption by todays governments threatens social consequences that correlates to politics that many might find puzzling and tough to figure out. A culture that believes that its citizens arent reliably competent thinkers will treat those citizens differently to one that respects their reflective autonomy. Plato argued that hatred of reason sprang from the same source as hatred for humanity. Aristotle declared that man was the rational animal, and it seemed evident to Spinoza: just as a dog is a barking animal, so man was the beast who reasoned!
