After receiving complaints from fans about Soweto Derby ticket - TopicsExpress

After receiving complaints from fans about Soweto Derby ticket prices, we put out a call to Orlando Pirates to get an explanation from their spokesman Mickey Modisane. KickOff: Mickey, a lot of Orlando Pirates fans are complaining about the ticket prices saying that they are way too expensive. What’s the reason for the increase? Mickey Modisane: Listen my man, this is the Soweto Derby not just an ordinary match and we will be creating a lot of razzmatazz. Except for the match, there will be lots of activities at the stadium. And this match comes with a lot of expenses like security and we will be bringing a lot of artists like Uhuru and expensive DJs. We know that a DJ can cost up to R50 000, we must take that into consideration. KO: But Mickey, regular fans who attend every match for R40 didn’t ask to see artists like Uhuru and expensive DJ’s, why should they foot the bill? MM: That is your perception and not the perception of die-hard Orlando Pirates fans. For that matter ticket prices will vary depending on where you sit. The cheapest ticket is R60 and then you also get R80 tickets. Our sponsors Vodacom will be at the stadium as early as 09h00 giving away goodies. This is a premium match. KO: Did Orlando Pirates inform the PSL before bumping up ticket prices and what was their response? MM: Yes, we did speak to them because they are the custodians and they have to be consulted in decisions of this nature. And the PSL doesn’t have a problem with this. KO: In the past, we’ve heard stories of fans paying R60 to buy two-litre cooldrinks which is ridiculous. What is Pirates going to do to ensure that fans are not ripped off? MM: Look, unfortunately hospitality is not our issue. You will have to speak to stadium management when it comes to that. KO: Is bumping up ticket prices for big matches going to be a regular procedure going forward? MM: When we play teams like AmaZulu our fans do not come to our matches and this doesn’t allow us to do the activities we want to do. But when it comes to a big match, these things will be done.
